Adobe Mara Arts Walk
The September 27th Adobe Mara Arts Walk will begin at 6 PM and go until around 10 PM, providing a full evening of art, community, and creativity! The walk will kick off at the Black Cactus Co-Working home office, where you’ll get your first look at the incredible art and meet the talented artists.
We’re very excited to announce the theme for this months walk: High Desert HOMECOMING!
This month, we honor our beloved students as they head back to school + celebrate the experience of finding your tribe in the hi-desert.
Each artist in the Black Cactus community goes through their own homecoming journey as they find their creative family here, and we can’t wait to showcase this powerful theme through art, community, and connection. Join us in celebrating this shared experience!
When we launched our Adobe Mara Arts Walk initiative, our focus was on providing a safe space for community to gather and engage under the auspice of art.
Inspired by the legendary Oasis of Mara just outside Twentynine Palms, Black Cactus is thrilled to offer 100 virtual memberships to fellow artists and creators of color in the high desert and Morongo basin communities.
At its core, the Adobe Mara Art Walk is about collaboration and interdependence. The last Friday of each month, we will offer artists included in the 100 Desert Artists of Color initiative to amplify the diverse voices that paint the desert landscape with vibrant hues.
Since we launched the walk back in February, we’ve:
✦ Hosted 4 Arts walks
✦ Held 20+ individual coaching meetings with artists in our program
✦ Featured over 30 pieces of art
✦ Accepted 10 artists in our program
By identifying, supporting and amplifying the work and business of our 100 Desert Artists of Color, we believe we will directly influence the innovative and economic prospects of the Twentynine Palms community through the lens of its General Plan and its creation of an Arts District, which we’ve broadly titled the Adobe Mara Arts District.
We’re excited to announce that Jeanine Beauty, Mojave Threads, and Tonsorial Cuts will be collaborating with Black Cactus at the upcoming Adobe Mara Arts Walk! These amazing local businesses will be joining forces with us to create a vibrant, creative experience throughout the community. We are still accepting applications for establishments in downtown Twentynine Palms interested in becoming satellite venues for the arts walk, offering their spaces to showcase local art and be part of the event route. If you'd like to get involved, now’s the perfect time to connect with us!
